Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay has leveled serious allegations against the DMK government, accusing it of suppressing the case involving Gem Veeramani. Addressing a campaign rally in Thozhuppedu for Maragatham Kumaravel, the Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate for the Madurantakam assembly by-election, Vijay demanded accountability from the ruling party.
"A man has been abusing young women and innocent children for years in Tamil Nadu, and the DMK government has covered up the case. The entire state is asking questions about this. Open your mouth, Stalin sir," Vijay stated during his address. He further criticized the AIADMK for its silence on the matter, questioning if the two parties were colluding.
During the rally, Vijay positioned himself as a representative of the people rather than a traditional politician. He criticized the DMK for its derogatory rhetoric, claiming that the party and its associates frequently use abusive language against women. He urged voters to support the 'whistle' symbol, describing a vote for his candidate as a direct rebuke to those who disrespect women.
Vijay also attacked the political alliance dynamics in the state, labeling the DMK, AIADMK, and BJP as being cut from the same cloth. He claimed that the AIADMK has effectively become a branch of the DMK, noting that the former's decision to align with a party that once insulted J. Jayalalithaa had alienated its own supporters. He asserted that for him, as it was for MGR and Jayalalithaa, the DMK remains the primary political adversary.
Addressing criticisms regarding his administration's financial policies and borrowing, Vijay defended his government's actions. "I am borrowing to do good for the people, not to loot," he said, referencing his commitment to providing subsidized gas cylinders. He dismissed claims that his government would be unstable, stating that the DMK's attempts to undermine his administration would fail.
Vijay concluded by reiterating his stance against corruption, challenging the DMK to prove its record. He accused the ruling party of attempting to silence him in the assembly whenever he raised issues of graft. "I tell the DMK and Stalin that we will not let go of this corrupt group. Can the DMK say they have never been corrupt? Can they promise they will never be corrupt again?" he asked.
