Tamil Nadu consistently drew a lower quantity of rice than its allocated share under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) in most years between 2019-20 and 2025-26.
The only significant exception was the COVID-19 pandemic year, 2020-21, when the state's off-take was nearly 98% of the approximately 6.99 lakh tonnes allocated. In other years, the drawal rates were considerably lower.
For instance, during 2022-23 and 2023-24, the state drew only about 73% of its allocation. This figure saw a slight increase to 79% in 2024-25.
