Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is forecast to persist across Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, and Wayanad through tomorrow, sustaining high inflows into the Cauvery basin. The Kabini Dam has reached its full capacity, necessitating the release of surplus water toward the Mettur Dam, while the Harangi Dam is also discharging excess water into the Krishna Raja Sagara (KRS) Reservoir.
The KRS Reservoir is currently receiving approximately 20,000 cusecs of inflow, a figure expected to rise over the next 24 hours due to ongoing downpours in the Kodagu catchment area. Meanwhile, the Hemavathi Dam in Chikkamagaluru is experiencing significant rainfall, though officials estimate it will take five to ten days to reach full capacity. Once full, additional surplus releases from Hemavathi are expected to further increase inflows into the KRS. Rainfall in these catchment areas is projected to subside after Sunday.
