Activist Sonam Wangchuk has accused Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh of breaching a trust agreement regarding the conclusion of his 26-day hunger strike. Wangchuk claims the ministers pledged not to release photographs of his midnight meeting with them until opposition and student leaders could be included in a joint announcement. He stated that Intelligence Bureau officials were present as witnesses to this agreement.
Despite these assurances, Wangchuk reported that images of him breaking his fast were released to media outlets within minutes of the meeting. The activist expressed deep disillusionment with political leaders across party lines, stating that the incident has caused him to lose faith in their integrity. He explicitly rejected allegations that he had negotiated a private deal with the government to end his protest.
Wangchuk began his hunger strike on June 28 at Jantar Mantar to support the Cockroach Janta Party's protest regarding the NEET issue. Following his transfer to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, he ended his fast on July 24 after receiving a video message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi concerning anti-paper leak legislation.
