PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss has strongly condemned the Tamil Nadu government for failing to provide agricultural electricity connections to over 60,000 farmers under the Tatkal scheme, despite an eight-month delay. He stated that the government has collected more than Rs 1,500 crore in advance payments from 60,120 applicants, labeling the continued inaction a betrayal of the farming community.
Under the scheme's regulations, electricity connections should be provided within 15 to 90 days of application. Ramadoss noted that many farmers, who borrowed money at high interest rates to pay the advance, are now facing severe financial losses and mounting debt because they could not cultivate their crops. He argued that the government should have expedited the process following the elections.
Highlighting that farmers are already struggling with drought and inadequate prices for their produce, Ramadoss described the collection of such large sums without delivering the promised service as unjust. He has demanded that the government immediately provide the agricultural electricity connections to all farmers currently awaiting them under the Tatkal scheme.
