The Tamil Nadu Stone Quarry, Crusher and Lorry Owners Association has urged the state government to reconsider the ban on transporting minerals to other states. Association state president Chinnasamy stated that the restriction, which has been in effect since July 27, has severely impacted quarry owners and workers in border districts.
Chinnasamy warned that the sudden ban threatens jobs and leaves owners unable to repay bank loans taken for their investments. Operations have already been suspended at numerous quarries in Madurai, Coimbatore, and Tiruppur. He requested that the government permit the legal transport of minerals to neighboring states to alleviate the crisis.
Addressing allegations of price gouging, Chinnasamy denied that owners were inflating mineral costs, noting that market competition keeps prices below government-set rates. He also welcomed the current administration's efficiency in processing environmental clearances and other necessary permits.
