A statewide project to restore lakes, ponds, and canals begins tomorrow under the 'Viksit Bharat' rural employment and livelihood scheme. The government has allocated 507.92 crore rupees for this initiative, which covers 37 districts, excluding Chennai.
The project aims to improve water conservation by desilting and renovating 10,185 canals and 809 water bodies, including lakes and ponds. Thanjavur district has received the highest allocation of 116.38 crore rupees, followed by 32.69 crore rupees for Dindigul and 30 crore rupees for Villupuram.
