PMK MLA Sowmya Anbumani has urged the Tamil Nadu government to conduct digital mapping of all waterbodies exceeding five acres in size. Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, she highlighted that numerous government and private structures have been built on encroached lake beds, citing the Valluvar Kottam, Nehru Stadium, and the bus terminals in Koyambedu and Tindivanam as examples.
Anbumani noted that while many of these encroachments occurred in the past due to a lack of proper records, such developments must be prevented in the future. She formally requested the Minister for Water Resources to initiate a comprehensive survey and digital mapping process to ensure all state waterbodies are accurately documented and protected.
