The water level at Mettur Dam has risen by 6.58 feet over the past week, reaching 88.43 feet as of yesterday evening. This increase is attributed to surplus water being released from the Kabini Dam in Karnataka. Water Resources Minister Anand stated that water will be released for delta irrigation once the dam level reaches 90 feet, a milestone expected in the near future. Reports suggest that Chief Minister Joseph Vijay may attend the release ceremony, though a date has not yet been finalized.
Salem District Superintendent of Police Kuthalingam has inspected the site to review security arrangements and preparations for the water release. Meanwhile, the ban on coracle services at Hogenakkal remains in effect for the tenth consecutive day due to fluctuating water levels in the Cauvery River.
