Scientists from the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development are investigating whether debris from the avalanche blocked the Lende Khola, creating a temporary dam that suddenly burst. Authorities have issued evacuation orders near the Nepal-China border due to fears that a remaining blockage could trigger a secondary flood.
Seismic stations in the region recorded unusual activity during the event, which experts are currently analyzing alongside satellite imagery. The disaster highlights the increasing risks posed by unstable slopes and melting glaciers in the Himalayas, as officials continue to monitor the area for further threats.
