Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi. The discussions focused on border issues, trade, and investment, with both leaders emphasizing the importance of their nations' strategic relationship. President Xi noted that the two countries have met 21 times, guiding their relations toward steady development.
During the meeting, President Xi stated that China and India can learn from each other's strengths and support one another to achieve common development. He highlighted the significant responsibilities both nations share as the world's most populous countries and key members of the Global South. Prime Minister Modi welcomed the Chinese leader and expressed gratitude for China's support during India's BRICS chairmanship.
The talks follow recent high-level diplomatic exchanges, including discussions between National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi regarding the 3,488-km border dispute. While India maintains that peace along the Line of Actual Control is essential for broader cooperation, the two leaders are expected to review bilateral relations and explore new measures to expand their engagement.
