Two weeks after flash floods triggered by an ice-rock avalanche struck the Nepal-Tibet border, 80 individuals remain unaccounted for, according to the Isha Foundation. The missing group includes 77 participants of a Kailash Manasarovar pilgrimage and three volunteers. While the national death toll has climbed to 1,386, authorities report that 5,130 people remain missing across the region.
The Isha Foundation stated that identification efforts at the disaster site are ongoing but remain time-consuming due to restricted access at the Gyirong Port. Both Chinese and Nepali authorities have limited entry to the area, requiring the foundation to coordinate search efforts through embassies, the Nepali Army, and local police. Volunteers are currently assisting families by relaying verified information and navigating complex identification procedures.
To support the recovery process, the foundation has established a dedicated hotline and is working with consular services to facilitate DNA identification. While international media have gained limited access to the site, the foundation maintains that no new facts have emerged regarding the missing individuals. The organization continues to provide updates to affected families as information is confirmed by official sources.
