The Madras High Court has issued a directive prohibiting caste-based discrimination among devotees at places of worship. The court's ruling follows a public interest litigation filed in response to allegations of discriminatory practices against devotees at the Varadaraja Perumal Temple in Kanchipuram.
In its order, the court emphasized that all beings are equal before the divine, citing a verse from the Bhagavad Gita to underscore the principle. The bench reiterated that religious institutions must remain free from any form of caste-based prejudice.
