Oracle has initiated a new round of layoffs, with affected employees receiving termination notices via email at approximately 6 a.m. The messages informed staff that their roles were being eliminated as part of a broader organizational change and that the day of receipt was their final working day. Access to company systems was deactivated shortly after the notifications were sent.
The job cuts occur as Oracle aggressively invests in artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure, reporting $28.5 billion in capital expenditure for the first quarter of fiscal 2027. While the company has not disclosed the total number of employees impacted by this latest action, the move follows a 13 per cent reduction in its global workforce during the previous fiscal year.
These layoffs are part of a wider restructuring trend across the technology sector, which has seen over 128,000 job losses globally so far this year. Industry analysts suggest that while some roles are being replaced by automation, companies are also utilizing the current AI boom to reorganize teams and reduce operational costs.
