Police have arrested a 45-year-old temple priest for stealing an eight-sovereign gold necklace from a deity statue at the 1,500-year-old Srinivasa Perumal Temple in Seyyar village, near Vandavasi. The theft was reported by temple management, prompting an immediate police investigation.
Authorities identified the suspect as Raghuraman, who served as a priest at the temple. Following the theft, he had collected his monthly salary and gone into hiding. Police successfully tracked him to a lodge where he was taken into custody.
