The Supreme Court has expressed deep concern over the ad hoc nature of the NEET examination system following widespread protests regarding paper leaks. A bench of Justices P.S. Narasimha and Alok Aradhe assured that the court would take necessary steps to ensure the medical entrance exam becomes foolproof and institutionalized.
The Centre has been directed to provide a comprehensive update by August 3 regarding proposed systemic changes. The court specifically requested information on the implementation of recommendations from the high-level committee led by former ISRO chairman K. Radhakrishnan, particularly concerning the formation of a transparent governing board.
Furthermore, the bench has sought the government's response on transitioning to a computer-based testing model similar to the IIT-JEE. The court emphasized that data security, cybersecurity protocols, and the logistics of such a transition remain critical priorities that must be addressed to protect the interests of students.
